Voice Lessons

Second Street Music Academy

Voice lessons at Second Street Music Academy are taught to students over 12 years old. The following are answers to frequently asked questions:

What do you teach? I take a classical approach to voice training,  which includes proper breathing, vowel formation, sight-reading and  expression. Students learn vocal exercises and begin with folk song repertoire,  moving into classical and Broadway repertoire.

Where do I purchase books and how much will they cost? All books may  be purchased or special-ordered through the studio.  Students begin with a vocal  exercise CD and a repertoire book. Beginning costs are approximately $25.00.

What ages do you teach? I teach ages12 through adult. Those under 18  must take a guitar or piano lesson in conjunction with voice in a one-hour  block.

How often are lessons?  Private lessons are taken once a week for 30 minutes. The cost of  tuition is explained in detail in Policies.  In addition to the private  lesson students will also have computer lab assignments.

Do parents attend lessons with the child? You may attend lessons with  your child; however, it is not mandatory for parents to attend with their  child.

How much practice is required? Students should do at least 15 minutes  of vocal warm-up exercise, followed by 30 minutes of work on repertoire.  Of  course, additional practice will move students toward their goals more quickly.

Do you have any openings? You may check the Schedule to see if there are any  openings. If there is an opening that would meet your needs, please call the  studio to arrange an interview.
